Going Green
Listed below are just a few of the environmentally friendly initiatives that will be incorporated within the Royal Canadian Air Force Run. Please be sure to read below and find out how your actions can also assist in making this a "green" event!
Going Paperless
The Royal Canadian Air Force Run encourages all participants to reduce their paper consumption by registering for the event online.
Reusable Bags
The Royal Canadian Air Force Run will be distributing reusable cotton bags to hold the race package kit, instead of the alternative plastic disposable bags which have a greater environmental impact. Race participants are encouraged to reuse their bag for years to come!
Donate Your Shoes to Be Reused
No need to throw out your old sneakers! Bring in your gently used shoes where they will be donated to those in need. Donation bins (kindly supplied by The Running Room) will be set up in the race village. Have too much on your mind during the race day? Collection bins will also be available in the Fitness and Recreation Center during the race package pick-up from May 27th-29th.
Getting to the Race
To reduce parking worries, traffic congestion and resulting vehicle emissions, Royal Canadian Air Force Run participants, spectators and volunteers are highly encouraged to carpool or find alternate means of transportation to the event. Interested in taking the bus? 17 Wing Winnipeg is closely located to Winnipeg Transit bus routes. Please visit www.winnipegtransit.ca to plan your trip. For those interested in riding their bike to the event, there is no need to worry about finding space at a bike rack as you can lock your bicycle to the chain link fence along Whytewold/Whuri Road. However, please take note that all unclaimed bicycles left along the fence will be removed following the event.
Bicycles Leading the Way
In order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, vehicles typically used during the race will be replaced with bicycles when possible. Volunteers with bicycles will assist in keeping the course pace, offering first aid and providing course maintenance.
Recycling
The Royal Canadian Air Force Run has implemented a recycling program that will be used to prevent recyclable materials from entering a landfill. Keep an eye out for the blue and green recycling bins located throughout the event area and toss in your plastic bottles, aluminum cans and paper.
